Job Summary
Reporting to the Aquatics Manager, the Swimming Instructor is responsible for teaching individuals of all ages and abilities how to swim and improve their swimming skills. They create lesson plans, provide instruction on proper swimming techniques and water safety, and assess the progress of their students. The swimming instructor must have strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively work with students, parents, and other staff members. The swimming instructor plays a vital role in promoting water safety and fostering a love for swimming in their students.
 
The position requires availability Monday – Friday, from 3:30 PM - 8:30 PM.
 
Duties and Responsibilities
·        Teaching Swimming Skills: Instructing students in basic and advanced swimming techniques, using effective and engaging methods.
·        Ensuring Safety: Constantly monitoring all students during lessons to ensure their safety in and around the water.
·        Planning and Preparation: Designing lesson plans appropriate for the age and skill level of students, including objectives and goals for each session.
·        Evaluating Progress: Assessing the progress of students, providing them with constructive feedback, and adjusting lesson plans to meet individual learning needs and abilities.
·        Promoting Water Safety: Educating students on important aspects of water safety, drowning prevention, and safe behavior in and around water environments.
·        Customer Service: Providing excellent customer service by assisting patrons, answering questions, and addressing concerns in a friendly and professional manner.
·        Communication: Effectively communicating with students, parents, and guardians.
·        Administration: Recording attendance, tracking progress, and administer and create report cards upon session completion.
·        Maintenance: Performing routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning and inspecting the pool, equipment, and facilities to ensure they are safe and in good condition.
·        Attending in-service meetings.
 
Qualifications
·        Swim For Life Instructor / Life Saving Instructor required.
·        Bronze Cross required
·        First Aid required
·        NL is considered an asset
·        SwimAbilities Instructor is considered an asset
·        Intervention Record Check (IRC) required
·        Solid written and verbal communication skills
·        Exceptional problem-solving skills
