About the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and engaging Summer Art Camp Instructor to lead art classes for children ages 6–12. The successful candidate will develop and facilitate hands on mixed media art projects (focused on drawing, painting, and sculpting) that inspire creativity, build artistic skills, and foster confidence in young artists.
Each lesson will combine practical art making with age appropriate art history and cultural context, introducing campers to influential artists, artistic movements, and creative traditions from around the world.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging daily art lessons for children ages 6–12.
  • Teach a variety of mixed media techniques, including drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, fiber arts, and recycled material projects.
  • Incorporate brief, interactive art history and cultural learning components into each lesson.
  • Adapt projects to accommodate different ages, skill levels, and learning styles.
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment.
  • Purchase, prepare and organize art materials and maintain a clean, safe studio space. (all purchases reimbursed)
  • Supervise campers during programming hours and ensure their well being and safety.
  • Encourage creativity, self expression, and experimentation.
  • Display and celebrate student artwork through exhibitions or end of session showcases.
  • Communicate professionally with program staff and parents when required.
  • Mentor any youth volunteers that are assigned to art programs

Qualifications

  • Background in Visual Arts, Art Education, Fine Arts, Education, or a related field.
  • Experience working with children in educational, recreational, camp, or community settings.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of art materials and mixed media techniques.
  • Ability to explain art concepts and historical context in an engaging, age appropriate manner.
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
  • Energetic, reliable, patient, and enthusiastic.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification is considered an asset.
  • Vulnerable Sector Check required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching certification or experience leading youth art programs.
  • Experience developing curriculum or lesson plans.
  • Knowledge of diverse artists, cultures, and artistic traditions.
  • Experience creating inclusive programming for children with varying abilities and learning needs.

Compensation

$40.00 per hour
